Not Knowing

Many people think it is a bad thing to get lost.

Several people are embarrassed and therefore refuse to ask directions.

But getting lost should be a desired goal ever so often.

When you get lost you are forced to think outside the box.

Often you discover places and meet people you would have never met otherwise.

Getting lost can be serendipitous — in that you discover just what has been at the back of your mind.

Do not take the sure and proven path all the time.

Commit to getting lost regularly so you can exercise what you don’t know.

It is comfortable, and even arrogant for us to bask in what we know.  But awareness does not allow us to grow.

You can only grown when you don’t know, when you have to figure something else out.

Live for not knowing, and Discover what you get to know.

Enter Your Cacoon

perhaps today

is the day you feel

out of sorts

DSC05057there is a glow

but there is darkness too

you want to stay in bed

with the covers over you head

you should curl up and read

have someone bring you tea

tell the mosquitoes

to leave you alone

fling caution to the wind

but be cautious

especially with your words

today is not a day

you can be your usual chirpy self

you don’t want to help fix

anyone today

today you need fixing

you need someone

to be there for you

to say

here i am

i’m your super hero

i will make it all happen

for you

i believe in your dreams

i am your patron

your personal cheering club

you godmother with a magic wand

and everything you want happens

today

not tomorrow

or in the some vague

distant future

today you don’t feel

optimistic

or positive

or even about changing your mind

today you are in the dumps

and want to stay there

no pep talk

no new age guru

just you and the dumps

feeling like these stonesDSC05059

chipped and hard on soft soles

you believe no one gets you

no one understands how much

you want or why you want so much

or how tired you are of always trying

today you want to be left alone

to stay in bed

find a dark corner

where you can hide

no light

no noise

no thank you

no thank you

today it’s okay

to be out of sorts

a little needy

DSC05058

today the blue sky

does not make you happy

you are hiding

in the bush

Do Until – The Bridge

DSC03159

I don’t know if most people give up just before their great breakthrough.

What I do know, is that to keep going without seeing any results is hard, and requires a specific mindset.

Each of us has to decide if we are okay looking at the ceiling above our heads or if we want to keep going until we burst through the ceiling and ascend into the sky.IMG_2404

There is no heaven above or below. There is however,  a place we hold sacred, where we believe everything is perfect and there is absolute ease and all our needs will be met.

It sounds great but also boring. The fact is every invention was borne out of a need.

Challenges keep you alert, exercise your mind and allow you to problem solve in incredible ways.

Sometimes you might have to rest for a little while before getting back on track, but never, never, never give up — completely.  That is the living dead.

Find a way to keep your dream alive and keep trying, especially when it seems hopeless. Take a break.  Regroup.  Recharge.  Own what you want.  Accept it and Demand that the universe supports you. DSC03346

P.S.  Make sure you don’t miss the signs of success.  Sometimes you already received what you asked for, but it looks different, so you overlook it.

Don’t be the dog spinning around to catch its tail.

Be the tree that owns is treedom.

Practice Seeing/Being

DSC06180

This morning on my daily walk, I decided to take a different path, to push myself a little harder, to see beyond the obvious, to discover what was above the knoll, to go where I have always been planning to go but had not.

I made an agreement with myself to practice seeing all the miniscule things in the environment around me and being present in the moment, free of expectation or worries.

What a delight and sense of accomplishment when I made it with such ease to the top and witnessed the world before and below me…The sea spread like a banquet, a boulder island within the reef, rocks jutting up like seals, the sea on her horse leaping over them, swirling in a flirtatious tease.

DSC06174

Every vantage point offered its own reward.

Five months of walking in this area, but never venturing to the ridge, until this morning.

Then ambling through grass waist deep, crisscrossing to avoid thorns, for a moment, wondering if this is an area populated by snakes, but remembering the mongooses must have gotten then all, and now have switched their palates to iguanas, but not me –a person.

Always present death and life — where do they not intersect?

But most present to how satisfying it is to be able to walk, unencumbered, alone, with the sea to one side,  the sun over head and the feel of  sweat gloving my body…

A Special Breed -St Croix Sheep

they were crying

tears running down

their faces

these sweet gentle

sheep that looked on

huddled in dismay

as a stray dog attacked and killed

hornless and hardy

they resist parasite

of this region they are a hybrid

European wooled sheep

brought about two hundred years

after the first enslaved Africans

their manure proved

valuable to sugar production

known to be very fertile

they are better than lawnmowers

The Journey of Silence

There is a delicate balance

to be achieved between

speaking your truth

and  sitting on what you know

and allowing time to guide

you to right action

DSC05250

Often it’s important

to take a journey into silence

to block out all external noises

and internal fears

ask yourself

is this the path you envisioned

for yourself

what is it that your heart

seeks to know

what dreams are yours

to live

what life is now

to be given up

for the greater you

to come forth

how to walk in the light

without seeming to hurt another

how to write the stories

of the characters

you’ve lived with

for more than two decades

move forward

listen

accept

know when to avoid

the light and when

to seek

darkness

allowing self

to emerge

and dance intimately

Pearly-Eyed Thrasher

thrasher2adisa

as i sat in meditation

i was visited by

a Thrasher

who kept my company

for over ten minutes

waited in fact until

i went inside and got

my camera

posed for me

thrasher3adisa15

flitting from branch

to branch

fluffing herself

all the while

keeping the twig

securely in her beak

i suspect she was

a woman

contemplating

motherhood

pondering the weight

of such desire

should she build a nest

or continue to be

free of such demands

i identified fully

with such deliberations

but thirty years later

jamaicachildren1

i assured her it was worth

the gamble

with love and dedication

they grow worthy

by nature she’s aggressive

an omnivore who

feeds on large insects

even other birds

i can tell she’ll be

a good mother

providing for her

off-springs

teaching them

independence

own way in life

UGLY SMELLY FRUIT

noniimagine being saddled with

such a name –Noni

i mean why would anyone

do that even to a fruit

Noni   Noni

child don’t you hear me calling you

the teasing

the embarrassment

the sheer frustration

i must admit its biological name

Morinda Citrifolia

is much more pleasing

to the ear

and that it’s related to coffee

well now we could begin a friendship

despite its seedy eyes

that track you from every angle

despite its undefined shape

that seems to be morphing

despite its smell that has earned

it the nick name cheese fruit

-although it is also known as

Great Morinda or Indian Mulberry-

allegedly it’s good for you

perennial and yielding multiple fruits

it begins green then turns yellow

and is almost white when ripe

it sustains many during famine

and is eaten raw or cooked

just add a little salt to enhance the taste

noni2

the Chinese use it to eliminate

impotency as well as treat abdominal pain

it has been rediscovered as the lasted remedy

to reduce inflammation and acne

no matter its origin or medicinal might

i think it should be renamed

maybe Stumped Toe or

Remember to Gargle or

Just Give Me a Break

Noni you can find it

almost everywhere in St Croix

ignored by many

avoided by most

but treasured by those

astute to homeopathic remedies

Full Moon Ushering a New Year

moon36:2

on the eve of Brian’s birthday

the moon was full

when we left our favorite restaurant

after a pre-birthday drink

i thought it was dawn

the night was so light

the smokey white dish

so bright in the sky

moving like a slow rolling ball

i wanted to chase and grab it

there was a poem i could hear

in my mind but could not recite

when we got home i googled

moon poems but could not find it

did my memory trick me

or perhaps there is a moon poem

that wants me to give birth to it

render it as luminous

as that round disk in the sky

almost obliterating all other stars

moon6:2

warming our hearts to appreciate

what’s before and cherish our time

together

Tyre Palm

DSC05827it might appear

to be a contradiction

well at least the name

rubber and earthy

or perhaps earthy rubber

but don’t be fooled

it’s just a name

a name that seeks to describe

native to the Virgin Islands

and Puerto Rico

it is common

so common

it is sometimes called

a fan palm as its shape

is ideal to cool you

in the sweat of the day

its symmetry is pleasing

to those for whom aesthetic matters

its yellow flowers

and purple-black fruit

offer their own appeal

as they frame a house

conceal a yard with debris or

stand stately along the drivewaytyrepalmtree
